On behalf of the Jonathan Batty Benefit Committee, I welcome you to the Benefit Web Site and naturally thank you for your interest.

The awarding of a Benefit by a County to a player should never be taken for granted and must be earned through dedication and loyalty to the County. In my opinion and a view shared by many others in Surrey awarding a benefit to JB for 2009, there could never be a more justifiable candidate.

JB’s dedication to the cause of County Cricket is unprecedented, both on and off the field of play. His loyalty to the Surrey cause is unsurpassed and he must be one of the most respected County players currently on the county circuit.

Jonathan’s prowess on the field of play is exhaustive, he has formed part of Surrey’s famous county championship winning sides lifting the trophy in 1999, 2000 and 2002, who captained the side in 2004, and has stalwartly kept wicket throughout this time period with limited respite. If I be allowed to indulge, I personally remember in May 2004, JB equalling the world wicketing record by capturing 8 wickets in an innings against Kent, and in the same game scored 129 in the first innings – not many days better than that.

The Benefit Committee has assembled a programme of fundraising events in support of Jonathan’s Benefit Year, targeted in such a way, that they will appeal to both club members and corporate alike, and to all those who would simply wish to show in some way their gratitude to this very affable young man.

It is a very exciting year for the Surrey Club with its new cricketing leadership and with significant events to be held at the Brit Oval, including Twenty20 World Cup and the forthcoming Ashes series combined with Jonathan’s Benefit Year.

The Committee and Jonathan look forward to meeting with you throughout the year. There is something for everyone.
